25 Problems Forum - Privacy policy

This text explains how Roman Kowalczuk and his technical support and other associates (hereinafter “we”, “us”, “our”, “25 Problems Forum”, “https://25problems.com”), and open source software providers phpBB Limited (hereinafter “they”, “them”, “their”, “phpBB software”, “www.phpbb.com”, “phpBB Limited”, “phpBB Teams”) may use any information collected during any browsing session by you on “25 Problems Forum”. Hereinafter this collected information will be called “your information”.

Your information on any given phpBB installation is collected in two ways. Browsing “25 Problems Forum” will cause the phpBB software to create a number of cookies, which are small text files that are downloaded on to your computer’s web browser temporary files. The first two cookies just contain a user identifier (hereinafter “user-id”) and an anonymous session identifier (hereinafter “session-id”), automatically assigned to you by the phpBB software. A third cookie will be created once you have browsed topics within “25 Problems Forum” and is used to store which topics have been read, thereby improving your user experience.

Cookies that are external to the phpBB software may also be created, although this is outside the scope of this document which is a stock thing, just something that is included in the phpBB package, and is intended to only cover the pages here that are created by the phpBB software.

The second way in which we, as operators of this installation of phpBB forums, may collect your information is by what you submit. This can be, and is not limited to: posting as an anonymous user (hereinafter “anonymous posts”), registering on “25 Problems Forum” (which action will create an account - hereinafter “your account”) and posts submitted by you after registration and whilst logged in (hereinafter “your posts”).

Your account on “25 Problems Forum” will at a bare minimum contain a uniquely identifiable name (hereinafter “your user name”), a personal password used for logging into your account here (hereinafter “your password”) and a personal, valid email address (hereinafter “your email”). Your information for your account at “25 Problems Forum” is protected by data protection laws applicable in the country that hosts the system. Any information beyond your user name, your password, and your email address required by “25 Problems Forum” during the registration process is either mandatory or optional, at the discretion of “25 Problems Forum”. In all cases, you have the option of what information in your account is publicly displayed. Furthermore, within your account, you have the option to opt-in, or opt-out of, automatically generated emails from the phpBB software.

Your password is ciphered (a one-way hash) so that it is secure. However, it is recommended that you do not reuse the same password across a number of different websites. Your password is the means of accessing your account at “25 Problems Forum”, so please guard it carefully and under no circumstance will anyone affiliated with “25 Problems Forum”, phpBB or another 3rd party, legitimately ask you for your password. Should you forget your password for your account, you can use the “I forgot my password” feature provided by the phpBB software. This process will ask you to submit your user name and your email, then the phpBB software will generate a new password to reclaim your account.

It is or will be technically possible to post community information either by sending e-mail to Roman Kowalczuk, or (if things pan out, mail boxes carry stiff fees) you will be able to send SNAIL mail via Canada Post, to a numbered mail box. This feature is pending but if you want to discuss the ins and outs or you have something urgent please send e-mail to roman@25problems.com

(You may send unsigned e-mail yourself from YOUR account, external to our phpBB installation! Or you may ask someone to send it on your behalf via an e-mail account that they have access to. E-mail privacy and digital records in contact lists may be a ‘problem’ in and of itself - for instance your landlord or condo management company may have stuff that they need to manage in a responsible manner... people may be sending e-mail and they may have a newsletter that the send out... things like that. One of our bulletin boards has been on-line in one form or another for over 40 years and we are thus quite familiar with the issues around the storage of digital data, and data retention policies.)
