Re: One tree that said 'nyet'
You're probably wondering how I came across this.
I was reading about former CIA director John McCone, who was from California - home of Bechtel and Shockley Semiconductor (read: "Intel") and Xerox PARC and Alan Kay and the Dynabook etc. And Commodore (well, Atari anyway) and Apple.
Bechtel's founder worked on the Western Pacific Railway and that lead me to pics of trains chugging through the Altamont Pass and so on. You can't browse through old pictures of Palo Alto and not see something about the tree.
Closer to home I think there are a few 300 year old pines at Kelso/Rattlesnake Point but they are very small, gnarly little things.
There is one giant white pine left in my area but Shhhh! Don't tell the developers and Metrolinx who have guys walking around with idling gas-powered chain saws looking for something to cut down.
