Public meeting re: 7 St. Dennis Dr.
Public meeting re: 7 St. Dennis Dr.
As mentioned in the calendar, there is a public meeting at the North York Civic Centre next week re: the proposal to expand 7 St. Dennis Drive.
7 St. Dennis is the building across the road from the Ontario Science Centre. Folks interested may want to try and bone up on the issues ahead of time.
Your results may vary, but to me city's associated files contain a number of inaccuracies and the "Application Information Centre" or AIC continues to be very poor.
In these screenshots from a quick survey we did, area buildings have abutments added to them for some reason. Fire escapes that were never built? I've marked these in red solely because they look so weird! And I added the IMAX theatre which still works, although the science centre is fenced off and there is a big "CLOSED" sign. I put that in too.
There is also no mention, in the proposal, of the elevated railway and the huge developments at the intersection of Don Mills and Eglinton are not shown... these actually stretch north past Wynford Drive, all the way up to the Canadian Pacific railway main line (which is not shown!) and past the tracks. I've marked some of this area with a rough purple square. See also this video clip from a Sunday afternoon in 2023 - scary! At the local councillor's March 27, 2023 'townhall' about this issue people were literally in tears over all the intensification, and city officials reported feeling under pressure from developers "to go higher" with all the towers.
The brown square roughly marks the position of a planned tower, already under construction and causing huge disruptions to the sandy brown area. Tap or click on the images to enlarge them a bit.
I can't imagine how the planning staff can project sight lines and model wind tunnel effects and so on, ahead of time with data that is this bad.
Just as example the new "7 St. Dennis" and "10 Grenoble" towers and the "200 Gateway" build-up (never mentioned) will kill sunset views for a lot of people! Bwhah-hahaha.
