North York planning event or town hall, tonight?

Post by Admin »

Only councillor "Burningsides" knows the answer to that one! Starts in half an hour?

In the above e-mail message. ^ ^ ^ .Burningsides says "see you there!" - which would be fine, except that the City of Toronto's accompanying "rules of engagement" instructions (I am not making this up) expressly restrict video! And many other features (of whatever the meeting platform is - it was not made clear in Burningside's rush to acquiesce to the city's demands) will be turned off - count on it.

We'll have to cross our fingers re: what the data retention policy turns out to be like.

So I did join in the "consultation" - no sign of any town hall. It's my first time with 'Microsoft Teams' and first off, I got the location wrong. In early comments (and again this whole thing has been really short notice) I had put the site east of where it actually is. The correct location is across the street from the Don Mills branch of the library, on the south side of Lawrence East, west of Don Mills Road.

It looks like 50 people are participating in this session either via computer screens or on the telephone.

One participant was quite strident in her opposition to the development, and she actually raised the subject of construction dust. Another person said that the condo marked has tanked, so what's up with that? Another man mentioned sunlight issues and wind turbulence... concerns that the development people appeared to set aside, at least for the time being. “It is being considered.”

We'll have to see what the RECORDING of this looks like.

Edit 7:31 p.m. - there's still no sign of councillor Burningsides. Lots of shrill criticism - one man said the design is BRUTALIST!
